During the past 30 years, this branch of the San Francisco Bay Chapter of the national Sierra Club has become the largest singles organization in Northern California focused on activities and events. The 1,member group hosts activities including: hiking, cross country and downhill skiing, river rafting, bicycling, camping, kayaking, environmental education programs and more traditional events like dances and visits to museums. Many attend the events not just looking for a potential dating partner or life mate, but as a safe place to socialize in a low-pressure atmosphere with other singles with common interests.

The Austin Regional Group of the Sierra Club is a volunteer organization organized in the late s and comprised of individuals from Austin and the surrounding region who are concerned about the environment. Early projects of the organization included participating in planning sessions for the construction of MoPac, including the inclusion of a hike and bike trail under the MoPac bridge across Lady Bird Lake. The first issue of the newsletter the Austin Sierran was published in March of and then, as now, the newsletter is used to keep members informed about meetings, club outings and local issues concerning the environment. The small collection of the Austin Regional Group of the Sierra Club records include Executive Committee meeting minutes and Adopt-a-Highway project files dating from the s. The Executive Committee meeting minutes date from and highlight the local environmental issues the organization was involved in such as lawsuits, letter writing campaigns and appearances at public hearings; upcoming programming suggestions and plans; and fundraising efforts and financial decisions.
